Coming to a theater near you–First House

49I never thought I’d attend a movie premiere, let alone one where the movie listed me as a writer! Last night’s premiere of the PBS film, “First House” drew in 5 former governors and many former first ladies and first kids, plus a full house at the Carpenter Center theater in downtown Richmond. It was the first time anyone had seen the film, including me. I play the part of the talking head, and most of the images come straight from the book, First House. The black-tie event began with a VIP reception where I happily downed two glasses of champagne; then moved to the theater for popcorn and the film. Afterwards, Larry Sabato of U. Va. moderated the panel of former governors, asking them questions about their time in the Governor’s Mansion. I did one television interview and signed books, but did not have to give a talk. There was no need–the movie said it all.
